Is buy-to-let (BTL) dead?

Property advice | 28.08.24

In this video, Marc is asked the burning question of whether buy-to-let (BTL) is a dying model in the UK. He responds with some positivity as he believes buy-to-let is still very much alive, but the build-to-rent (BTR) sector, with the backing of big corporate investors and sovereign funds, has surely cast a shadow on the UK buy-to-let market. Also, what's the future for build-to-rent as ownership may change and investors might look for an exit. How are Londoners going to feel about a million homes in the capital being owned by a Canadian pension fund or any other wealthy sovereign fund? That said, while the buil-to-rent sector continues to break new ground, buy-to-let will continue be a wealth generator for individual investors looking at long-term value over short-term yields. Marc and UK journalist Christopher Watkin also touch upon the shortage of housing in the United Kingdom and the ambiguity in the Labour Government’s plan to meet the target of building 100,000 new homes per year.
