As the last bars of Auld Lang Syne fade, self-attention inevitably turns to health, wellness and, well, for some of us, that thorny issue of weight. After the season’s excess, a little self-TLC is no bad thing, whatever shape you’re in, so follow our guide to the best detox spa spots in town.
Eve time
Although you’ll need to be prepared for both her straight talking and the price of expertise, the legendary Eve Lom is based at The Sanderson’s Agua spa. Book in for an MOT facial and you will enjoy a thorough cleanse and exfoliation, along with cranio-sacral therapy that leave your complexion radiant. Spa membership costs £2,000 which includes two blissful nights at the Sanderson, a smattering of gym treatments, unlimited use of the gym and spas, plus discounts on meals, so quite reasonable, really. If luxe is your mantra, Agua is your spot.

Glorious mud
Leave the country behind and restore mind and body with a detoxifying Dead Sea mud wrap and massage at The May Fair. Starting with a sea salt scrub, followed by a full body mud wrap, a 30-minute massage will have you feeling fit for city life once more. At £145 for 90-minutes, we reckon this is the quickest way to zen-like status. Of course, if you love Hyde Park’s high life, we would be delighted to share our area knowledge – step this way for our local area guide.

Head to toe
If Christmas has left you as wrung out as a damp tea towel, recharge body and soul at the Mandarin Oriental. Try the Inner Wellness day, four hours of utterly divine pampering that includes a nourishing body wrap, age repair facial and foot massage. Enjoy the spa’s sanariums, vitality pools and amethyst crystal steam rooms – you will sail into Knightsbridge feeling like a new woman (or man), and so if it is a new property to match that you seek, head no further than our local office where we shall lavish as much care upon your residential requirements as those spa angels.

Made for two
Less brash than a big hotel experience, Ushvani has won accolades from Tatler and Condé Nast Traveller as the UK’s best day spa. Created by a former lawyer who career jumped to create an authentic Malaysian spa experience, the highlight is the Asmara Suite for couples, friends or loved ones. With fruit and juices on arrival, a private steam room and sunken stone bath, there’s plenty of time to unwind before enjoying treatments, side by side. If it weren’t for grey old London weather waiting outside, you could imagine yourself to sunnier climes – in fact, make sure you chill for as long as possible. Once you’re ready to return to real life, why not make the Knightsbridge areayour permanent oasis – click here for our area guide and then give us a call to discover the best places in town.

Go underground
A little less high-end than the rest, but for quick, efficient and novel, we have to mention the Rosebery Rooms in Clerkenwell. Formerly an underground ‘convenience’, four treatment rooms take care of everything from facials to colonic hydrotherapy at less than painful prices – we’re talking a massage from £39. Convenient and efficient spa-time for when you’re on the go.

All aboard
One of our favourite hotel openings in recent years, the spa at St Pancras does relaxation in spades. From day to annual memberships, this one is seriously worth considering if you live or work in and around the NW1 neighbourhood – and if you’re looking, call into our Hyde Park office and let us show you the best spots. Enjoy the Victorian tiled pool, fitness advice and sauna, but there’s also access to some fantastic specialists including a Hellerwork posture masseuse, clinical dieticians for expert advice on weight and wellbeing, plus a fragrance consultant who will match you to your perfect scent. You’ll be all luxed out here before the January blues have a second to settle.
