April Celebrity Moves

The days are longer, the weather is a little warmer and it’s finally time to ditch those chunky knit jumpers.  Yes, spring has sprung and no one looks forward to spring more than us letting agents!  The “spring bounce” is a well-known phenomenon – it’s the time of year when everyone thinks it might be high time to move to a new home.  It’s not just us mere mortals who are keen to make the move but a host of celebrities start feeling itchy feet around this time of year, too.  Here is our round up of the latest celebrity moves.

Mind your p’s and q’s

Fans of Downton Abbey were crying into their well-starched handkerchiefs recently as the much loved series finally came to an end.  While Downton Abbey (a.k.a. Highclere Castle) is unlikely to ever come up for sale any time soon, you can purchase Daisy Lewis’s former flat.  The actress who played Sarah Bunting in the series is now selling the Pimlico penthouse flat she once shared with her brother.  If you can’t quite stretch to the £2.35m asking price, we have some other options nearby including this gorgeous flat.

More than just friends

Matthew Perry (aka Chandler from hit US sitcom, Friends) is currently starring in The End of Longing, a play he’s written that bears more than a few similarities to Friends.  While treading the boards in the West End, Perry is renting a £7 million pound flat nearby.  You, too, can have the Friends experience.  This nearby rental apartment is also a short walk to Hyde Park and a number of trendy coffee shops.

Rumour has it

Pssst.  Don’t tell anyone but word on the street is that Prime Minister David Cameron’s North Kensington home will soon come onto the market.  The tenants of the £2 million property have recently moved out and speculation is rife that the Camerons plan on keeping it available in case the whole Brexit thing doesn’t not work out.  If you fancy popping round to the PM’s for a cup of tea, we have this 3 bed rental property nearby.

Former British newspaper publisher Conrad Black has been downsizing in a big way.  He sold his Kensington townhouse several years ago for £13m before selling his Park Avenue flat in New York shortly thereafter.  He was allegedly even managing to shift part of his property portfolio when he was in prison on fraud charges.  While behind bars, he sold his Palm Beach mansion for $23 million and just sold his Toronto mansion at a reduced price of $16.5 million!  Apparently he wants to spend more time on this side of the Atlantic.  Not to worry.  We can help.  This apartment to rent in Knightsbridge is in the style to which he and wife Barbara Amiel have become accustomed.

Kylie should be so lucky

Pop princess Kylie Minogue’s former home is on the market.  The two-storey Chelsea duplex which she sold in 2010 is just what you’d expect of the pint-sized diva.  It has a sweeping staircase, chandeliers and acres of polished parquet floors that would presumably double as a dance floor should you want to break out the gold hot pants.  Should the recently engaged pop star wish to move back to the Chelsea area, this property might suit.

If Hogwarts doesn’t suit

The Dowager Duchess of Northumberland, Eleanor Percy, once had a beautiful London base in Mayfair.  The two bedroom apartment, which the estate agent describes as having an unusual amount of outdoor space for the area, is now up for sale for £5.6 million.  The Duchess made a number of improvements during her tenure including a master suite and a conservatory.  Where the Dowager Duchess has now gone is a mystery although the family estate, Alnwick Castle, is certainly big enough to accommodate her.  The gothic estate serves as the backdrop for the Harry Potter films.  We also have this fabulous apartment in Mayfair if she wants to remain in the Capital.
