Norwich area guide

Norwich is a historic city in Norfolk, East Anglia, situated on the River Wensum. Holding the status of the only complete medieval town in the UK, Norwich is a city of cobbled streets, ancient buildings, timbered houses and medieval lanes. The picturesque city enjoys a location close to rugged coasts, miles of riverside walks, cycle paths, stunning beaches, wildlife sanctuaries and small villages.

With a compact city centre, shopping malls such as Intu Chapelfield and Castle Quarter, as well as small retail outlets at Riverside and Cathedral Park, are all within walking distance. Residents are further spoilt for choice as multiple independent shops are dotted around nearby Norwich Lanes, Cathedral Quarter and Magdalen Street.

In terms of real estate, the Golden Triangle area is where family homes are most in-demand, while the riverside has new apartment buildings popular with young professionals. Students also prefer Norwich as it is located just two miles away from the University of East Anglia (UEA) campus.

The city offers residents an ideal balance of work and pleasure, while families benefit from excellent schools local to almost every neighbourhood.

The city of Norwich offers residents the perfect balance of busy urban living combined with an easy commute. The A140 connects Norwich to Ipswich and Suffolk, while the A11 connects Norwich to Cambridge. Road connections from this city into London and the M25 are via the A12 at Colchester or the M11 from Cambridge.

With the rapidly expanding gastro scene, emphasis on culture, the arts, and literature, the gorgeous Norfolk Broads, cool cafes and a vibrant mix of quirky independent boutiques — it's clear why Norwich is quickly becoming one of the most popular English cities.
